In Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4, there are 167 characters to find and unlock. For each character you can find a round token, either lying around the school, or within levels themselves.
Each level has three tokens to find, giving you 72 of the characters. The rest must be found while free-roaming around the school. The characters below are listed in the same order as they would appear when purchasing them from Madam Malkin’s. If you’re missing a character you can check what character appears before them and then use that to identify which character you are missing.

If you haven’t already, unlock the spiral staircase on the right side of the screen by changing to a Hufflepuff character and waving at the painting. When the curtain opens you will see the spiral staircase with the token behind it.

After building the puppy that makes the dragon destroy the wall, use dark magic on the large, black object which looks like an oversized golf ball.

When you swim through the first tunnel and come out closer to the screen, double back to the left to find a pirate with a chest, sitting under an outcrop of rock. Hit the chest with a spell, to open the token and get the token from inside.

How to get:
Use Reducto on the chest next to the blackboard then build the bricks that come out into an opening to a secret passageway. Go through the opening and shoot the three multicoloured banners at the back of the room. When you’ve hit all three banners, the token will drop down.

On the small green where you learnt where to fly a broomstick, there are five dig spots. Have an animal, or a character with a shovel, dig up all five spots and the token will appear.

When you reach the hatch that you drop the student into, use a small animal to go into the gap between the floor and the level above, which is on the right side of the screen. The token can be seen, just under the platform.

When you reach the room with the flying keys, you will find a small chest on the right side of the room, secured with a silver padlock. Hit the padlock with Reducto to get the token out.

How to get:
On the ground floor of the Owlery, under the stairs, there is a brown Lego object on the right hand side. Use WIngardium Leviosa on it and it will move into place nearby, to form a ramp. You can use the ramp to reach the character token, which is hovering high up on the right hand wall.

How to get:

There are four torches dotter around the classroom, high up on the walls. Use Wingardium Leviosa on all four of them to get the character token.

After you swim/fly across the water, you can climb up a Bowtruckle ladder onto a tree covered in spider webs. When you get up the ladder, go left and you can see the token in mid- air.

Use Wingardium Leviosa in the three patches of brown mushrooms dotted around the garden. Hold the spell long enough to pull the plants out. When the third and final plant has been pulled out the token will appear.

At the bottom of the stairs there are three large crates. Smash all three of them, then use the bricks left behind to rebuild the pier, allowing you to reach the token that is out over the water.

In the room with the giant chess game, use dark magic on the black chess piece lying near the right hand door. Once the chest piece has “exploded” you can collect the token.

Go behind Dumbledore’s chair to find a small room with a chest inside. Use dark magic to open the chest and get the token from inside.

How to get:
To get this token you will require strength, so you must either enter the room as a strong character, or use the cauldron in Dumbledore’s Office to brew the super-strength potion. When you have a strong character, head up the stairs in his office, where you will find a strong character level. Pull the lever to reveal a model of the solar system. Completely destroy the model until only the Sorting Hat remains. Use Wingardium leviosa on the hat to raise it into the air and get the token to drop out.

How to get:
Head into the second Transfiguration Classroom and you will see three dummy cages, each with a smaller cage opposite. When you step up to the dummy area, the dummies will begin to move towards the smaller cages. You have to hit each dummy with a Transfiguration spell, before it reaches the smaller cage at the other end. Each time you transfigure a dummy, it will turn into a small animal and enter the smaller cage. You need to get three animals in each cage to make the character token appear.

How to get:
Head to the left side of the classroom and have Griphook turn his key in the safe. This will open a panel in the floor, allowing you to drop down into a passageway below. Follow the passageway to the right, avoiding the claws that will try to knock you off the path. Using Lumos will help you see the grates the claws will follow, so you know where you can pass between them. When you go far enough to the right, you will see a Boggart chest. Cast Riddikulus (or Expecto Patronum if you are playing as Harry) to get rid of the Boggard and get the token.
Professor Snape

How to get:
Professor Snape’s token is on a ledge, high above where you enter this room. To reach it you will need to collect three keys; one in a safe that Griphook can open, one in a Rune cabinet on the right hand side of the room, and the final key can be found by hitting the gargoyle statues to knock them off the wall. When you have all three keys, open the gates along the back wall, near the Rune Cabinet. You can then stack the Lego bricks into a staircase, so you can reach the ledge above, on the left hand side of your screen. Follow the ledge to all the way to the left and cast Reducto on the locked chest at the end, to release the character token.

How to get:
On the left side of the room there is a large silver padlock. Hit it with Reducto to open a panel in the floor, which you use to reach a small passageway below. Along the back wall of the passageway there are a couple of eggs. Hit both of them with a spell, to knock them down and break them open. Use Wingardium Leviosa on the items that come out of the egss, and place them onto the statue of a sleeping dragon. When both parts are correctly attached, the character token will appear.

How to get:
Enter the Secret Passageway at the back of the classroom and go all the way to the left and down the stairs. On the lower floor, go all the way to the right and you will see the token on the floor near the exit of this area.

When you reach the tree in the middle of the water, head to the left a little where you will find a locked chest. Cast Reducto to break open the chest, so you can collect the token from inside.

In the right hand corner of the room (on the lower floor), hit the bin near the lockers and a spray can will fall out. Use Wingardium Leviosa on the spray can and move it around on the wall behind to draw a picture. When the picture is complete the token will appear for you to collect.

When you are in the chamber with the giant snake skin on the floor, go to the left hand side of the room, where you will find some Devil’s Snare, on a rock above you. When you reach the Hospital Wing, you will need to gain access to Madam Pomfrey’s office. Use Wingardium Leviosa on one of the hospital beds near the door, at the back of the room. This will reveal a knight who will break through the door to her office. Once you get into her office, head to the right side of the screen and use Dark Magic on the cabinet to get the token out.

Along the back wall there are three yellowish blocks that you need to flip round by hitting them with a spell. Two of them can be done easily, but the third will need to be unlocked with Reducto first.

How to get:
Put on some earmuffs and pick up the Mandrake that’s on the lower floor. Use the mandrake to break five glass objects that are dotted around the greenhouse. When you have destroyed the last one, the token will appear for you to collect.

I haven’t got all the characters but have got back in… This game is so full of glitches, it really annoys me. I’m stuck on 99.7% needing two more character tokens. I know exactly how to get them as I’ve read the forums but it won’t let me do it on the actual game. Sooooo frustrating!!

How do you get back into hogwarts with changeable characters??
if you’ve already finished the story go to the Leaky Cauldron door where the “continue story” option appears. Now it’ll say “return to Hogwarts.” If you are still doing the story mode, the characters will end up in Hogwarts to learn spells and whatnot, you can explore.

you can take out mandrakes you’ve already planted. just go near the pot and when the blue arrowhead appears pull it out (push the same button you used to put it in, on PC this is ‘left’)
I cant find what to do to get Parvati Patil in the DADA classroom i got the ballgown one and found that all right but cant find the blue lego things in the other one
DADA classroom has 2 extra rooms. You have to build a cabinet to get to one and use dark magic to get into the other.

In the Slytherin common room, I have the levers built but there’s still water in the small pools and strong characters won’t pull the levers. please help.
How do I buy my characters? I have been to Madam Malkins a dozen times and it never shows or lets me buy the characters I have unlocked. The most it will do is show me 2 Harry’s in sweater and blue shirt but can’t buy those either. What do I need to do to actually buy the unlocked characters?

I just need Rita Skeeter, but every time I go to the dungeon I can’t seem to blow up the drains, unless I’m missing whichever ones I am supposed to blow up. Are you supposed to Reducto the drains where the snake comes out of, or the area beside the common room?

im so close to finishing but when i dig the 5 animal spots on the quidditch practice pitch for harry (quidditch) i get a hermione token, and even if i do that tokens solve i cant get harrys token. is anyone else having this issue? does anyone know how to fix it?

For The Bassist, you might want to clarify that you mean The Lake outside of Hogwarts, since The Black Lake is actually a level in Year 4. It might help to say The Lake area just to the right of Hagrid’s Garden and/or the Quidditch World Cup entrance, outside of Hogwarts. After looking at your guide, I started The Black Lake level and wandered around for 15 minutes looking for moles until I gave up and looked up another site for character tokens.

In case you haven’t gotten it you may be missing a drawer on the left side of the music player there’s a third disc to go on the music player that brings another character.
