Lego Lord of the Rings Minikit Treasure Chest Guide

0

As with all Lego games, there are 10 minikit pieces hidden in each level for you to find. You must find all 10 to complete a minikit and, when completed, you will find them in Rivendell. (The location of the minikit room is marked on the map by a treasure chest.) When you complete each minikit, you will get lots of studs and a Mithril brick.

To find the minikit pieces you will need to have certain character types unlocked for you to use in free play. All but one of the character types needed are unlocked by completing levels in story mode. The only exception is the Beserker, who can be found and bought at Helms Deep. You can also craft certain items that will allow you to use an ability on a character that does not naturally have it. For example, using Mithril Boxing Gloves will allow any character to pull an orange handle, even if they are not a strong character.

The list of character types needed, and the characters that have this ability, are listed below. If you need any help finding the treasure chests, you can unlock the Minikit Detector Red Brick.

  • Light to shine in dark placecs – Frodo, Gandalf
  • Tinderbox – Sam (Mithril Tinderbox)
  • Rope  – Sam (Mithril Rope)
  • Blow up Mithril blocks – Beserker (Mithril Fireworks)
  • Pull orange handles – Beserker, Shagrat (Mithril Boxing Gloves)
  • Destroy Morgul bricks – Isildur, Elendil, Aragorn, Sauron
  • High jump, walk on tightropes – Any elf
  • Break cracked bricks – Gimli (Golden Axe)
  • Fill a bucket with water – Pippin (Any treasure trove bucket)
  • Fish – Merry, Gollum (Mithril Fishing Rod)

Prologue

From the starting point, walk up the screen and you will see a chest buried in the ground. Have Sam (or any other character with the Mithril Trowel) dig it up to collect it.
Also at the start, before you move on to tackle Sauron, there are three targets at the back of the screen, off int he distance. Have any character with a bow hit all three to get the chest.
After defeating Sauron, you will find yourself on the slopes of Mount Doom. Next to where you start this area, there is a cracked wall. Throw Gimli at it, then enter the cave you just revealed. Inside the cave, there is a rope hook at the back of the room, on the left. Get both characters up there, then have one throw Gimli at the cracked wall, across the gap. Now change to Gollum and climb the back wall to get to the platform above. Finally, have any character with Anduril or Narsil break the rock in the middle of the platform, to release the lava flow. This will then produce a chest on the floor below for you to collect. You will need to jump into the inflatable in the pool to be able to collect it. Approach the inflatable and press Y to get in it.
There are five statues throughout the level that you will need to completely destroy using Anduril or Narsil.

  • Inside the cave the you found after defeating Sauron, at the base of the lava flow you freed.
  • Further along the slope, there are two jets of lava, spewing from the wall. The second statue is just beyond those, before crossing the lava.
  • When you reach the high jump point, the third statue can be found at the edge of the cliff, to the left of the lava river.
  • Statues 4 and 5 can be found either side of the door that leads into the mountain itself, at the end of the slope. (You will know if you have the right door, because several Orcs will burst through them.)
Along the slopes of Mount Doom, you will come to a point where there are two jests of lava that come out of holes in the wall, one after the other. To the left of these two holes, there is a cracked wall. Throw Gimli at it, then build the leftover bricks so they plug one of the holes. Now have an archer hit the target that is above the right-hand hole. When both holes a blocked, the pressure will build and eventually blow, bringing with it pieces of a chest. Build them up to collect the chest.
Just after the last chest, you will cross over some flowing lava. On the other side, tucked away on the lava, you will see a rock with a chest on top. Use the rope to pull it free so you can collect it. (You may need to stand close to the edge to collect it so be careful not to fall in)
A little way further on form the last one, some Orcs will break out of a wall and come out for a fight. Use a light to explore the cave they came out of and you will find a chest tucked away inside.
When you come to a point for a high jumper that has a large rock on it, with a red and white chequered floor, use Anduril or Narsil to destroy the Morgul rocks that are blocking an area along the back wall. The chest is behind them.
Next to the door at the end of the slope, there is a Mithril object, on the left. Blow them up, then use the small character door to go up and get a chest.
Inside the volcano itself, you will find a target up above the gate that came down and blocked you in. Have an archer shoot it to drop the chest down for you to collect.

The Black Rider

Right at the start of the level, walk to the left and you will see an orange handle. Have a strong character pull the handle to remove the rock and uncover a hole in the floor. You can then drop down through the hole and you will find yourself in a new cave. At the back of the cave there is a high jump. PLace one of your characters up there, then have the other pull the rope that is dangling down by the purple stud, on the back wall. You can now pass over the thing you just lowered and walk to the right to find a crack in the floor that Gimli can break, to plug a hole in the floor below.
From there, walk towards the screen to find a fire that must be lit. This will drop a large piece of wood onto another hole and block that too. Now head to the right and you will see a target up near the ceiling. Have an archer hit it to block yet another hole. Finally, light up the cave on the right and you will scare the mole out of this hole, and into the one in the middle of the cave. This will produce another chest for you to collect.
Continue on through the level until you dislodge a large boulder that will roll along and crash into a tree. As the boulder rolls along, you will see the chest behind a tree. You can simply walk behind the tree to pick up the chest.
When the Black Rider first stops on a bridge, you will be able to see a Mithril object a little way down river from him. When you have moved him on, blow up the Mithril to uncover a chest.
While fighting with Saruman, there is a pair of stained glass doors with a padlock on them. When you throw Saruman, throw him into those doors to smash them and a bird will fly in a drop the chest for you to collect.
After fighting with Saruman, you will be back on the road with the Black Rider again. Along the way, there are 5 nests that you can shoot down to get another chest.

  • The first is just a few paces along the path, above the first boulder you dislodge.
  • Nests 2 and 3 are to the right of the large log that you will need to grow a plant by, to get over it.
  • Above the bee hive that you drop onto the Black Rider. (If you are having trouble targeting it, try from the other side of the river.)
  • The last nest is up high, to the right of where the bee hive was before you dropped it on the Black Rider.
When you have grown a plant to get over a high log, on the other side there is a crack in the wall that Gimli can break open. When you have done that, walk inside the log to get the chest.
When the bees have burst through the spider web, and scared off the Black Rider, have Golloum climb the wall inside the tree to get another chest.
Straight after the last chest, destroy the bush that sits in front of the horizontal log you needed to crawl through to get past the Black Rider. Under that bush there is a dig spot, which contains another chest.
When running down hill, fleeing from the Ringwraiths, keep to the right side of the screen. The chest is in the open but you must run over it to get it and missing it will mean repeating the whole level.

Weathertop

While sorting out the breakfast at the start of the level, along the back wall near the tree, there is an arrow hole. Shoot an arrow into it and a chest will appear, which you can then jump up to get by swinging off the arrow.
Still in the same area, light up the doorway that is next to the sleeping Frodo. Now walk in and collect a chest.
Above the doorway that is next to Frodo, there is a rope hook. Pull it down to get your third chest.
There are three pink flowers to destroy throughout the second part of the level. After you have finished breakfast, be sure to look for them, to get the chest.

  • After dropping the large boulders to cross a gap, the first plant is right in front of you.
  • You will find the second one just after crossing a gap that you grew a large, purple flower to do so.
  • Just past the last one, before you head through the door that will lead you to the top of Weathertop.
After you have grown a large pink flower to reach a higher ledge, you can use a high jumper to jump form the flower to a grip rail on the right. Follow the rail to the end to find a chest.
You will come to a point where you must get both characters to jump onto green vines that are hanging down. Below those vines there is an orange handle. Have a strong character pull it to reveal a hole in the wall with another chest in it.
After growing a large purple plant to cross a gap, you will find a cracked wall on the right. Have Gimli break it open so you can pass through and collect the chest.
When dealing with the Nazgul, there is a Mithril object on the left. Blow it up, then have Frodo build the bricks into a winch. Turn the crank and the chest will appear.
Near the last chest, there is also a box with an orange handle on it. Have a strong character pul the handle to break open the box and find a chest.
While trying to light the 5 fires to deal with the Nazgul, there are three targets around the area (one is quite high). Hit all three with arrows to get the chest.

The Pass of Caradhras

There are 5 skeletons along the path that have brass helmets on. Destroy each one to get the chest.

  • From the start of the level, go left instead of right to find the skeleton.
  • After bringing down the first lot of snow, head back through the small character hatch and throw Gimli at the wall to reveal a hidden area. Jump up there using the rails on the right, and you will see the skeleton next to the rock.
  • The third one is to the left of the first tent you come across.
  • After you have walked across the tightrope follow the wall around to the right and you will find the skeleton at the end of the path.
  • After crossing the part of the path that has boulders falling down from above, throw Gimli across the gap and keep heading right. You will dig up a small character hatch which you can go through to find the last skeleton.
There are also four flags along the way that need to be raised. Hit each one to raise it and you will get a chest at the end.

  • After the second pile of snow that you clear, walk towards the screen and you will find the first flag.
  • When you have lowered a rope for the other character(s) to be able to climb up to you, walk to the left, past the Gimli crack, and you will find the flag at the end of the ledge.
  • While walking along the path and having rocks dropped on your head, look for a small ledge near the edge of the path. It will be sticking out toward the screen so you might miss it. The next flag is on that ledge.
  • When you have dug up and built a gangplank, walk across the gap and head toward the screen, where you will see the last flag.
After walking across the tightrope, follow the wall around to the right and you will see a crack on the floor. Use Gimli to break it ope and build the bricks into a snowman. Have an archer hit the target on the Snowmans chest to reveal the chest.
When you have crossed the part of the path where boulders are filling on your head, you will see many Mithril rocks piled up. Blow them up and the chest is behind them.
Just past the last chest, you will need to throw Gimli across a gap. Above where he lands there is a rope hook. Climb up there and there is a box with an orange handle on it. Use a strong character to pull the box open and get the chest.
Moving on from the last chest, you will come to a part of the level where Sam must dig up and build a gangplank to cross a gap. Next to the dig spot there are some Mithril bricks blocking an alcove. Blow the up then light up the niche to find the chest.
When you have gotten through the snow part of the level and are down by the water, you will start near some Morgul bricks. Break them using Anduril or Narsil and Bill the Pony will come out. Hop on his back and a trail of studs will appear. Follow them to the end to find a chest.
Along the waters edge there are three little rocks you can pick up and throw. Each one must be thrown at a bottle that is floating in the water. When you pick the rock up, a yellow arrow will appear, showing you where the bottles are. When you have hit all three you will get the chest. (The two rocks on the left will only be found by breaking larger rocks.)
On the left side of the water, there is a high jump spot. Jump up and place an arrow in the wall so you can jump to another ledge. switch to a character that can light up the cave in front of you, then go inside to reach a new area. In here you will find a fishing pier. Catch yourself a fish, then climb up the Gollum wall on the back wall, to find a Cavetroll frozen in ice. Start a fire to thaw him out, then give him the fish to get a chest in return.
When you are fighting the Watcher in the Water, on the wall behind you there is a rope hook. Use it to climb up to a ledge and destroy the plant you find there to reveal the chest.

The Mines of Moria

In the first room there are three orange handles that must be pulled by a strong character to reveal dwarven statues.

  • The first is on the bottom level, on the left.
  • While fighting the cave troll, you will be able to access a ledge on the left. The orange handle is up there.
  • The last on eis on a ledge on the other side of the room.
In the room where you start the level, there is a box on the right hand side that has an orange handle on it. Have a strong character pull the box open to get the chest.
When you first hear the Balrog, you will be in a large, open room. In here there are three lots of Morgul bricks that you must destroy with Anduril or Narsil.

  • The first is on the right side of the room, in the open.
  • To get to the second one, you must destroy the Mithril bricks at the back of the room.
  • The last one can be found to the left of where the Mithril bricks were, in the open.
When you have dealt with the orcs that attack, just before you hear the Balrog for the first time, there are some Mithril bricks at the back of this room. Blow them up and you can access a small area behind them. On the left there are a couple of carts. Destroy them, then build the leftover bricks into a wall that Gollum can climb to get a chest.
To the right of the Gollum wall there is a rope hook. When I did this, Sam wouldn’t target the hook. I had to use the Mithril Rope form the Treasure Trove. When I equipped this, Sam could pull on the hook and dislodge the chest for me to collect.
When you get down the first set of stairs, you will see a huge pile of Mithril rocks. Blow them up and you can go through the gap to another room. In here there is a large organ with two pillars either side. Each pillar has a target on. Hit them both and two more targets will appear, slightly higher up. Hit both of those too and the chest will drop down for you to collect.
Staying in the same room as the last chest, approach the organ and three reels will begin to spin near the bottom of it. The reel on the left will have one set of red lights that are lit. When those lights are in the slot at the bottom of the reel, (a green box outlines the slot when they are in the right place), you must step on the white, square button on the floor, in front of the organ.Be warned that if you mistime the button, spike will come out of the ground and take one heart from your health. Now a second set of lights will light up on the middle reel and you must do the same with those. As before, this will then light up a set of lights on the third wheel and you must step on the button at the right time. When you have done this will all three reels, a drawbridge on the right will drop a little. You must do this process three times to get the bridge all the way down so you can cross and collect the chest. You will also notice that the reels will spin faster with every successful press of the button. Adjust your timing to save your health. (Any of you movie buffs out there might recognise that this is in fact a scene from the Goonies.)
When you have thrown Gimli over the first gap in the stairs, use the small character hatch to reach a ledge below. Walk around the back of the pillar where the chest is hidden.
When you have taken down the Balrog as Gandalf, you will head back to the other characters. Opposite the bridge there is a dark cave. Light it up and you will be able to go in and collect the chest.
Near the door that actually exits the mines, there are two targets up on the wall to the right. Hit them both and pieces of a chest will drop down. Build them up and you can collect the chest.

Amon Hen

While climbing up Amon Hen as Frodo, there are statues scattered about that need hitting. Some of them have targets that need hitting but you will not be able to change to an archer, so you will need to use a crafted bow to get them. If you need any help with your crafting items, check here. ***

  • The first target can be found above the first small character hatch.
  • Next to the catapult that you build to knock down the giant Lego head.
  • When you have dropped some rocks on Boromirs head and he has run off apologising, there is a statue on the ledge where you stood to throw the rock.
  • The remaining statues are found after Frodo has reached the top and you return to the characters on the shoreline. The first one is on the left, near an orange handle.
  • After demolishing a cracked wall as Gimli, the statue can be seen behind the tree trunk lying in front of you.
  • The last statue can be found right near the end of the level. Legolas will need to do a high jump onto an arrow to reach a ledge above, and then build and push down an object for the other character to be able to climb up. Up on the ledge, in front of you, is the last one.
When you throw the rock to know the finger off a large stone hand, you can destroy the rest of the hand to find the chest behind it.
After shooting the catapult to dislodge the giant Lego head, move forward and stand beside it. From here you can see a target in the distance. Hit the target and you will dislodge another boulder, which will roll down to the catapult. Go back and rebuild the catapult for another shot, then fire it to release a chest.
When you return to the characters at the waters edge, you will need to find Morgul bricks that need destroying. There are four in all and you will get the chest when they are all destroyed.

  • The first is found behind an orange handle, on the left of the shoreline. You will know if you are in the right place because a ghost is sat in front of it.
  • The second one is at the opposite end of the little beach you are on, next to the two canoes.
  • Follow the path leading you away from the beach and you will find a point where you need to use Legolas to jump up from a high point and use an arrow hole to reach a ledge above. The third lot of bricks are up here.
  • The final lot of bricks can be found right near the end of the level. Legolas will need to do a high jump onto an arrow to reach a ledge above, and then build and push down an object for the other character to be able to climb up. Up on the ledge, on the right, are the last bricks.
On the right hand side of the beach there are two statues, one of which has a rope hook on it. You will need to pull down the left hand statue using your rope, then have Gandalf rebuild it. The first piece to go on is the small one which is all pink on the bottom. Now place the other small piece on, followed by the large piece. The chest will appear after a second or two and you can collect it.
Head away from the beach until you reach a point where you must push a column of bricks onto a sliding floor, and use Gimli to break and rebuild a smaller column. You would normally move these columns so you can jump up onto the slope above, and continue on the path. Instead, push them to the right side of this slope where there is a small niche in the rock face, high up from the floor. You can jump up using these columns to a grab rail beside the niche, then jump into it to collect the chest.
As you move along the path, away from the beach, you will come to a rope hook that you use to pull some bricks down. Below the rope hook there is a dark cave. Light it up and you will see an orc and a rock inside. Kill the orc and destroy the rock to uncover the chest.
When you start to fight with the Uruk Hai, you will move along a path, killing them as you go. You will soon come to an open area that has a Gimli crack at the back of it, and a planting spot for Sam on the left. When you use this planting spot, a large flower will appear, allowing you to jump up and collect the chest.
In the same area as the last, walk to the front of the screen, away from the Gimli crack, and to the right slightly. There is a path here that you can follow to find a Mithril gate. Blow this up and head inside for a new area. Use the rope hook above your head to pull some platforms down that you can use to jump up to the ledge above. Hit the target with an arrow to knock a couple of bricks down, then build them up to a ledge that a high jumper can reach. From here you can keep jumping up to the left where there is a place for you to start a fire. Do this and a small character hatch will appear for you to use. Switch to a high jumper and jump up to the mushroom above you, then use this to bounce high and reach the chest.
While fighting Lurtz, head to the right where you will see a rope hook. Equip a tall character with the Mirthril rope, as a small character will get picked up by the Uruk Hai. Pulling the rope hook will reveal six targets around the area that can be hit by arrows to get the chest.

Taming Gollum

When you start the level with Gandalf, walk along the path and you will come to some brightly coloured Lego bricks. On the wall there is a diagram showing you how to stack the bricks. If you can do this exactly as it is shown, you will get a chest at the top of the stairs you just built.
At the top of the Lego stairs that you build, there are two Mirthil rocks. Blow them up to reveal a small character door, which you can use to go through and get a chest.
Continue up the slope until you reach the tower at the top. Make your way up the tower until you are almost at the top and you will find Morgul bricks tucked away on the left side. Break through them and have Sam grow the flower at the end of this ledge. You can then bounce on the leaves to get yourself up to the chest above.
When you have defeated the Balrog, you will find yourself running around in Emyn Muil. This part of the level runs in a large circle and contains four large skeletons for you to destroy and get a chest.

  • From the starting point, head slightly to the left and you will see it in front of a wall.
  • Follow the path round to the right and you will come to a rope hook that you must use to get a fish. To the right of this hook is the next skeleton.
  • Eventually, you will come to a point where Same must grow a plant for you to be able to get over a high wall of rock. The third skeleton can be found to the right of this plant spot.
  • When you are nearly back to where you started, you will need to dig up a rope hook, to get you to another ledge, where you can then grow a flower. just past that ledge is the last skeleton.
While running in a circle and getting the fish for Gollum, you will need to enter a dark space to collect one. To the right of this space there is a rope hook on a rock. Pull it to reveal the chest.
Keep following the path until you need to grow a plant to get over a high wall of rock. To the right of the plant spot there is a barrier of Morgul bricks. Destroy them and light up the space behind to find a chest.
Go back to the plant that you just grew and look closely at it. You will see a target in the middle of the flower which can be hit by an archer. Do this then carry on down the path. After a time, you will come to a point where you must dig up a rope hook and use that to get to another ledge where you grow another flower. Destroy this one by hitting the target and you will get the chest.
Keep following the path round, past the point where you build a fire and head slightly down hill. At the bottom of that hill there is a cracked wall that Gimli can break open to reveal the chest.
At the end of the level, you will find yourself being bombarded by fish that Gollum is throwing at you. Surrounding you when you start are three piles of fish bones. Destroy all three and you will get the parts of a chest, which you can build to collect.
Underneath the wall that Gollum is sat on is a dark cave. Light it up and you will see some Mithril rocks that can be blown up. When you have done that, walk through the cave and you will come to a new area. In this new room you will find a Gollum wall on the back and two levers that you can turn to rotate parts of the wall. Send Gollum up and have the other character miving the wall as you need it, until you can get to the right side. Break the box here and some bricks will come out and fall down below you. Drop down and build them up. You now need to go back onto the wall and get to the left so you can retrieve the crank. You can now place the crank onto the mechanism you just built, and turn it to raise the gate and collect the chest.

The Dead Marshes

Throughout the level there are five Gimli cracks in the floor that you must hit to raise some bones.

  • At the start of the level, walk towards the screen and to the right, and you will see the cracked brick. Break it open with Gimli and it will raise the skeletons.
  • On the second island, where you have to put out the first fire, there is another crack on the left side of the island.
  • You will come to a point where you must walk on some Lego to raise a large skull and a walkway out of the water. When you reach the water that you need to fill the bucket from, you will find the next Gimli brick on the right side of this island.
  • Keep going until Gollum first starts a fire in the water, rather than on land. There is a small island to the left of the one that has to pool of water for you bucket on it. The island on the left is the one that has the crack for Gimli.
  • The last one can be found right next to the giant skeleton that you must walk into to raise its skull.
When you start the level, walk towards the screen and you will find a cracked brick that Gimli can break open. This gives you some wood that you can build into a fishing pier. When you have caught the fish, walk tot he left and there is a dish on a sign post. Throw the fish at it and the chest will appear.
A little further on in the level, you will need to walk on some Lego to raise a large skull and a walkway out of the water. At this point, walk towards the screen where you can see some Lego foliage floating in the water. Jump onto it and another bit will appear. Keep walking along it until no more pops up. Here you must use a rope hook that may be off screen (move the camera a little if this is the case), which will pull the chest into the open for you to collect.
You will come to a point where a fire is started in the water, rather than on land. When you get past this fire, walk all the way to the right and you will see two baby crocodiles on a small island that is too far to reach. Pull the orange handle that is near you and a crocodile will come out and swim away with the babies, leaving a small plant piece for you to use to get the chest.
When you reach a large tree that you will need to light up in its hollow to find a rope hook inside, to the right of this tree there is a stack of Morgul bricks. Break them down and a ghost and a boat will appear. You will also be shown two bones that are back the way you just came. Go back and get them both, combining them in your inventory to make a steering wheel for the boat. Give the steering wheel to the ghost and you will get the chest in return.
When running and hiding from the Nazgul, you will come to an island with a rope hook on a dead tree. To the left of that tree, off in the distance, there is another tree with a target on it. Have an archer hit it and you will be able to get the chest when the tree has fallen.
After knocking down a tree to cross some water, there is a tree off in the distance with a target on it. Hit this and three ghosts will start waving targets in the water in front of you. Hit all three targets and you will be able to get the chest.
As you near the end of the marshes, Same will need to grow a plant to allow you to jump up to a higher ledge. To the right of where you grow this plant, there is an orange handle hidden behind some bushes. Clear them out and pull the handle to reveal a passage. Go through the passage and you can collect the chest.
While you are dealing with the Mumakils at the end of the level, walk to the left near the front of the screen, and you will see a dig spot. When you dig here, you will get blown up into the air, where you will get a chest.
To get the final chest you will need to find and hit five targets that are scattered around this last stage. As you try to dodge the Mumakil and Harradrim, walk around the edge of this area to find the targets. There are two on the right, one at the back on the right hand side, and two on the left. The targets pop up and down, which make them easier to spot, but harder to hit. If you are having trouble with your timing, try to do it without targeting it first and just keep pressing X.

Track Hobbits

When you have made it through the first clearing and into the second, look up to the left and you will see three targets. Hit each one and they will drop the pieces of a chest for you to build and collect.
Also in the second enclosure, there is an Isengard flag on the right that is stood in a Mithril block. Blow the block up to get a chest.
Still in the same place as the last two, you will see four coloured blocks, buried in the mud. Dig them up and destroy the plants covering the purple one You must then stack them into a set of stairs, as the image above them shows. You can then climb up them and jump onto a vine to climb up and get the chest.
As soon as you enter the forest, have a tall character throw Gimli at the tree next to your starting point. This will drop down a chest for you to collect.
A short distance on from the last chest, you will come to a tree with an orange handle. Have a strong character pull it, then walk into the space behind to reach a new area. In here there is a Ballista that you can sit on by pressing Y. You must aim at the targets with the Ballista, and shoot them. After I had shot 5 of the 6, the chest dropped down for me to collect.
When you reach the small character hatch, the Orc that has been chasing you will stop above a dark area. Have a character light this area up, to find the chest inside.
After the last chest, go through the small character hatch and turn to face the way you just came from. You should see two arrow holes in the trees, which you can use to jump onto a rope and collect the chest.
When you start off controlling Treebeard, switch to the character on the ground and dig up the dig spot that is right at the start of this path. You will dig up a large, grey crate. Break it open and a bear will appear to eat the food. Not only can you get a chest from this, but you can ride the bear too if you want.
Continue along the path a short way, until you need to throw a rock to create a ramp for Treebeard. When you have done this, pick up another rock and head up the ramp. To the right, high up in a tree, there is an owl perched on a branch. Throw the rock at the owl to get it to move on to another tree. If you do this twice more, the owl will land on a branch with the chest, then fly away and knock it down when you throw your last rock at it.
When you reach the large tree trunk crossing your path that is alight, put the fire out so you can move Treebeard without difficulty, then keep walking to the right, instead of going up the screen as the path would lead you. Here you will be able to walk along a path and destroy some objects at the end, to get the last chest.

Warg Attack

As soon as you start the level, walk towards the screen and light a fire under the cooking pot. Parts of a chest will come out for you to build and collect.
Either side of where Theoden sits, there is a target for you to shoot down. When you have, the pieces of a chest will drop down ready for building.
There are two cracked bricks on the floor for Gimli to break, one in front of where Theoden is sat, the other behind you when you start the level. When you have broken each one, build it into a horse picture, then break it. When you have done this to both of them, you will get the chest.
At the front of this room, on the left-hand side, there is a rope hook. When you pull it a curtain will open to reveal the chest.
When you come to fight the Wargs, you will find yourself in an enclosure with plenty to do in free play. The first chest here can be gained by shooting the target in the centre of five large flowers on the walls.
Just to the right of where you started here, there are some brightly coloured bricks that can be dug up. When you have done this, have a wizard place them onto the purple block. (There is a picture beside it to show you how best to stack them.) You can then climb up them and jump up to get the chest.
At the back of this area, near the save point, there is a wall for Gollum to climb. Before he can do this though, you will need to throw Gimli at it three times to break off some cracked areas. Then Gollum can climb up and get the chest.
To the left of the save point, there are some brown bricks. Hit them to remove them and you will find a stack of Mithril boulders. Blow these up and you can get the chest from behind them.
Following on to the left from the last chest, there is an orange handle in the rock face. Have a strong character pull on it to reveal the chest.
Near the middle of this area there is a dig spot. You will dig up a scarecrow that can be knocked down while you are on horseback. When you knock it down, another will appear along with a show-jumping barrier. There are five scarecrows in all, and you must knock each one down with your weapon while you are riding a horse or warg. When you have knocked all five of them down, you will get the last chest.

Helm’s Deep

At the start of the level, head to the right where you will see a cart with an orange handle on it. Have a strong character pull the handle and get the chest.
On the far right, there is a broken part of masonry leaning against the wall. Destroy it and you will uncover a crack in the wall. Throw Gimli at it to get the chest.
At the base of the Deeping Wall, you will see the small drain that the Uruk Hai blow up to gain entrance to Helms Deep during the battle. The drain is made of Mithril and can be blown up. Do this and walk through the drain into a new area. Here you will find an Uruk Hai Funfair. There are four games that you must win to get the chest. Starting from the left there is a strength test. Have Gimli bring his axe down on the cracked pad on the floor to light up the Eye of Sauron. Next is a shooting range. you will need an archer to hit all the targets. The third game in the row is the coconut shy. You will need to have Sam grow the coconut tree to the left of the ride, then hit it to drop down some coconuts for you to throw are the cans. Finally there is the ducking stool. Hit the target to drop the Uruk Hai from his seat. When you have completed each game, a flag will appear on the cage in the middle to show that you have successfully won that game. When all four flags are up, the cage will unlock so you can get the chest.
Still in the funfair, on the right there are some Murgul bricks. Break them open, then dig up the Ballista that is buried beneath them. Jump on and look up to the top of the wall. You will see some targets bobbing around. hit all five targets and some bricks will fall for you to build into, and collect the chest.
To the right of where the chest was in the cage, there is a food stand. Destroy it then have Aragorn use the dropped item to track down some stray bricks. When you have found them, build them up and get a high jumper to jump up and collect the chest from off the top.
After the wall has been blown up, you will make your escape along the left side of the wall. Before you go up the stairs into the keep, there is a spot for Same to grow a plant. Hit the flower when it is grown and it will give you a chest.
When you are outside, about to deal with the battering ram, run down the steps to the right and it is in the open.
Just above the last one, there is a wall for Gollum to climb up and get the chest.
As you ride out of Helms Deep, be ready to jump as you pass through the gate because a chest is hovering there and you can’t get it without jumping.
When you get down into the battle itself, you will continue to run through the chaos. As you go, look for two small black flags on flag posts. When you see one you will need to hit it to destroy it. Do this with all five and you will get the chest.

Osgiliath

When you have made it all the way to the top of the bell tower to collect the sword, have a high jumper jump up and grab the bell rope. This will ring the bell and drop a chest for you.
Near the start of the level you will need to shoot a tower to open a gate for the other characters to walk into a dak passage, then shoot another target to open another gate for them to be able to exit the passage. Before entering the passage, go up to the ledge above and stand to the left of the target. The roof that covers the top of the stairs has a grab rail on the front, which you can use to get onto this roof and pick up a flag pole. Keep hold of this for now and move on through the level. After you encounter the Nazgul for the second time, and you push the block off the edge, you will be able to jump up onto the back wall and head to the left to collect a flag. Combine that with the flag pole in your inventory and give it to the soldier that is stood up there.
While still at the bell tower, use an elf to jump onto the wall to the left of the tower at its base. From there you can jump onto a very narrow ledge that runs around the outside of the tower. Run around behind the tower, being very careful not to fall off, and you will get the chest that you can see through the second floor window.
Continue on until you have dealt with the Nazgul for a second time. Build the grab rails that the Nazgul knocks down on his way past, and climb up to the ledge above. Go to the left and you will see some Mithril bricks. Blow them up, then have a high jumper cross the gap to collect the chest.
Immediately after that, drop down below again, then jump through the gap in the back wall. Walk to the left and you will find another chest.
When you are dealing out some justice at Isengard, you will find many structures that you can destroy. Some of them are “Wheels of Industry”, or waterwheels. There are five of them dotted around between your starting point and the dam. Destroy them all to get the chest.
Three of the side of the Tower of Orthanc have some grey bricks on them. They easy to see against the Obsidian black of the rest of the tower. Near each one there will be a large boulder that you can pick up and throw at these grey bits to destroy them. When you have done this with all three, you will get the chest.
A short distance to the right of where you started as Treebeard, there is a large fire burning. To the right of the fire there is a large, brown water tank. Pick it up and throw it at the fire to put it out. The chest can be found when the fire is extinguished.
When you are past the scaffolding that the orcs set alight, you will find another large fire and a water tank. As before, put the fire out then collect the chest.
To the right of the dam there is a railway track running down through the trees. If you pick up a boulder and throw it at the track, you will break a smaller rock that is blocking the path of a small railway cart. Destroy all the boulders and when the cart makes it to the bottom, you will get a chest.

The Secret Stairs

On the left, in the cliff face, there is a cracked brick which Gimli can break open to get the cheat.
When you are on the stairs themselves, make your way up the first set, and stop before the next lot. To the right of you there is a small rock. Destroy it and have Sam plant the seedling. This will grow a plant and destroy the larger rock behind it, and give you the chest.
At the start of the next stage of stairs, there is an arrow hole on the left. Shoot an arrow into it and jump along the cliff face to collect the chest.
When you manage to make it to the second stage of the level, there are five plants that need to be destroyed. They can be a little hard to spot if you don’t know to look for them.

  • At the start of this part of the level, on the right side of the stairs you will see the first plant.
  • In the dark space underneath the Gollum wall.
  • When you find three grab rails at the top of a set of stairs, look to the right to find the plant.
  • The fourth plant can be found when you go through a small character hatch.
  • The fifth is just below the ledge containing the previous plant.
While climbing the stairs you will use three grab rails to get to a ledge on the left. On this ledge there is a large Mithril crate. Blow it up and you will be able to build a stairlift. You can then ride the stairlift to the top and get a chest.
When you enter Shelobs lair, walk forward into a small opening and you will see a chest on the left, tucked behind a spiders web. Below that there is a small spot for Sam to grow a plant that will release the chest.
Continue through the tunnel until you come to a Gollum wall. To the right of this wall there is a Mithril web that you can blow up and get the chest behind.
When you are through the small character hatch, you will be able to see a chest, caught in a web on the right, with a skeleton hanging down from it. Hit the skeleton and the chest will drop.
Continue on from the last chest until you reach some Morgul bricks. Smash the ones on the right and you will uncover a dig spot. Build the bricks that you dig up into a fly, which Gandalf can move up onto a web on the left. This will drop several studs, followed by the chest.
When you are running from Shelob at the end of the level, there are three files of spider eggs that you can run through to destroy them. You need to hit all three to get the chest or you will have to repeat the entire level to have another go. The trail of studs will usually lead you to it, but it can be confusing if you have stud attract on. To make things easier, stick to the right wall from the start until you hit the first one. (1/3 will show on the screen when you have hit it) Now switch and stick to the left wall as you run down, until you hit the second one. Finally, go back and stay as far right as you can to get the third, and to collect the chest.

Cirith Ungol

While fighting Shelob, you will be able to move around a large cave. On the right side of the cave there is a Mithril web on the ground, protecting a chest. Blow up the web and collect the chest from in the hole.
On the right side of the cave, there is a cracked wall, up high. Throw Gimli at it, then build the bricks into a trampoline so you can bounce up and get the chest.
Hanging from the ceiling of the cave, there are five egg sacks. You need to hit each one with an arrow to destroy it. There are three on the left, and two on the right, but one of the ones on the right is really hard to see. You will need to be as near to the bottom of the screen as possible, and even then you will only be able to see the tip of it.
When you have finished off Shelob, you will find yourself at the top of Cirith Ungol. On the right side of this room there is a cracked wall. Break it open with Gimli and walk into the gap. You can walk around the back of the room to collect a chest.
As you come down the stairs, you will see a chest up on the right. You will need to have a high jumper stand on the hand rail, then jump up using the grab rails to get the chest.
When you have made it out of the tower, you will be able to run around outside. Scattered around there are five spiderwebs that you can destroy. As you destroy each one, a spider will come out and remake the web. You must destroy them twice for it to count.Sometimes the web will not be there to start with. Instead you have to destroy an object before the spider will build the web. Either way, destroy all the webs for the chest.

  • On the far left, underneath a Gollum wall.
  • To the right of the save point.
  • At the bottom of some stairs, to the right of the platform that you slide along to get to a ledge above for some armour.
  • When you first get up onto the battlements, you will see it opposite a rope hook winch.
  • To the right of the long sliding floor, there is a barrel. Destroy the barrel to find the web.
When you are outside, head to the right and you will see a wall for Gollum to climb. To reach the wall, use the grab rails on the wall on the right. From the top one you can jump onto the wall, then follow it to the end to get a chest.
To the right of the orcs you are trying to fool, there is a large Mithril padlock. Blow it up and the doors will open for you to jump inside. You will find yourself in a room with several orcs searching the room. Use Frodos cloak to disguise yourself as a box. You can then walk all the way around the room to get the key in the bottom, left hand corner. When you have the key, make your way to the top, right hand corner. You will not be able to reach your destination without alerting the orcs. Head into the nearest orc and use the rop hook to pull down part of his tower. You can then build this into a fire and light it to remove this orc and his watchtower. If you have triggered the doors, take down any orcs that are running around on the floor, then head into a quite corner and get back into your box. You should now be able to walk to the corner, get out of your box to jump up the step, and open the lock.
Return to the main part of the level, and head all the way to the right. Here oyu will see a crack in the floor for Gimli to deal with. This uncovers a planting spot for Sam, which will grow a banana tree. Have a high jump jump onto the tree and bounce off it to grab a rope nearby. Whe you pull this rope, small blue barrels will be fired from a cannon onto the floor behind you. You will have 1 minute to destroy 20 of these barrels. For this I used Legolas because you don’t need to run around and he can fire them arrows off pretty quickly. When you have destroyed all 20, the chest will be launched from the cannon for you to collect.
While on top of the battlements, you will reach a point where you need to put together a large Rock Hammer. Before breaking through the floor, destroy the Morgul bricks on the left and build them into a Ballista. Fire the arrow, then have Legolas walk along the rope to get the chest.

The Paths of the Dead

Throughout the tunnels there are five seedlings that Sam will need to plant.

  • The first can be found on the left, a short way down the path from the start of the level.
  • When you break the Morgul bricks that you can build into stairs, you can find the seedling to the right of the stairs that you have built.
  • When you come to the high jump for Legolas, and the small character hatch that you build for Gimli, to the right of these you will find the seedling.
  • Some distance on, you come into a more open cavern. At the back of this room you will need to get Legolas up onto a high ledge to push a large crate over the edge. The seedling can be seen underneath that ledge.
  • The last one can be found in a room where Gimli must use a small character hatch to reach a lever that will open a gate. It is at he foot of the stairs leading down from that gate.
From the start of the level, walk forward a short distance and you will start to notice skeletons lying in catacombs in the walls. Either side of the tunnels, there are two catacombs that are boarded up. Destroy this and you will get the pieces of a chest for you to build and collect.
After using the high jump and arrow hole to reach a higher path on the left side of the tunnel, you will find a cracked brick for Gimli on the right. In front of you there is a dark area that can be lit up to reveal a chest.
While walking through the tunnels, you will come to an orange handle on your right. On the left side of the tunnel, there is a great vase-like item. Hit it to knock it off its pedestal, then use the rope hook on the bottom to get a cup out of it. Continue on until you get to a more open area. On the right of this room there is another grey vase. Repeat the process to get some flowers, and add them to the cup you got earlier. You now have an offering. At the back of this room, there is also an orange handle, up on a higher ledge. Have Gimli crack open the rock, then build the bricks into a grab rail that a high jumper can reach. Pull the handle off the wall and you will be able to make your offering for a chest in return.
In the same room as the last chest, there are some Morgul bricks on the left. Destroy them and the chest will drop down for you to collect.
Still in this same room, there is a large chain hanging from the ceiling and attached to the right hand wall. Where it is a attached to the wall there is a target. Hit it with an arrow and the chain will drop down for you to climb and get the chest.
Move on through the tunnel until you come to another open cavern. On the left here is a Mithril rock which you can blow up. Doing this will launch another rock at the back wall. When it does this, you will be able to see the chest at the top of a Gollum wall. To reach the chest you will need to destroy the Morgul bricks on the right so you can move thestatue. You can then climb up onto the ledge above and walk across the tightrope as an elf. Form here, change to Gollum and climb up to get the chest.
While in the same room as the last one, head around the corner of the ledge that has the tightrope attached to it. The chest is in to open there for you to collect.
Also up on the ledge with the tightrope, there is a spot for you to light a fire. Doing this will give you some coloured bricks to build into stairs. Use them to climb up and get the chest above.
In the final room, as you are fighting the boss, there are three banners hanging around the cave. They are quite high and unless you were looking for them, you probably wouldn’t notice them. At the bottom of each banner is a target. If you hit each target you will get the chest.

The Battle of Pelennor Fields

As you run through the battlefield as Theoden, you will be able to break objects that are lying about. During this run there are 3 crates which you can break open. Breaking the third will get you the treasure.
While riding through the battle, you will come to a point where there is a ramp on the right which has a chest in a crate at the top of it. Ride up the ramp to collect the chest.
Also during the run through the battlefield, there is a chest lying out in the open, near where a Mumakil falls. You should automatically collect this one, as I did without even trying for the treasure.
While fighting the Witch King, you will see some objects near the save point on the left. Break them open and build the bricks into a lever that you can jump on to move the horse and release the chest.
When you have killed the Witch Kings Fell Beast, you will have more room with which to kill Witch King himself. In the left hand corner closest to the screen, there is a cracked brick on the floor. Break it open with Gimli to find a chest.
While fighting the Witch King you will see a seedling for Sam to plant. You have three characters on the battle field, Merry, Eowyn and one other. You cannot change characters while playing as Merry or Eowyn here. Have the other character become Sam and you can plant the seedling and pick up the plant when it is grown. Continue to fight the Witch King until his mount is dead and you are dealing with him on foot. When this happens, you will have a wider area to explore. You can then find another seedling on the right which you can plant. Pick up the plant when it is grown and combine it in your inventory with the one you got earlier. This will form the first aid kit. When you have it in your inventory, a soldier will emerge who needs it. (You will see the first aid kit image above his head) Give him the kit and he will give you a chest.
While you are tackling the Mumakil, on the right side of the battlefield there is a large fire. To the left of that fire you will find an object with a purple glow, lying on the ground. Pick it up and you will see it is a broken spear. Walk up the screen a little way and you will see a dig spot. Dig up more Lego items and combine them in your inventory with the broken spear to make some crutches. A short distance form your dig spot, there is a Lego man stuck under a pile of wood. Set light to the wood and free the guy, then offer him the crutches.
To get another chest you will need to put out the large fire. To the left of the fire there are two Mithril rocks. The one on the right has a pool of water underneath. Blow up the rock and fill the bucket. Now head over to the fire and throw it on the flames. Do this once more and you will be able to break open the crates that contain the chest.
On the right side of this area, there is another fire, with a soldier in the middle. Use the same pool of water to fill your bucket, and put this one out for another chest.
The final chest can be found near the save point, in the middle. There is a crack in the floor that Gimli can break to release another soldier, and get the chest.

The Black Gate

At the start of the level, there are 5 trebuchets way off in the background, launching rocks at you which you use to take down the troll. Have an archer hit each one to get the chest.
When you come to face the second cave troll, you will see a Gollum wall running up the side of the gate itself. Have Gollum climb up and get the chest from the top.
Just around the corner from the last one, there is an orange handle. Have a strong character pull it to release the chest.
After removing the Morgul armour from another troll, he will run off to the left and you can chase him to a new area. At the back of this area there are some Mithril bricks that can be blown up, providing access to a new cave beyond it. Along the back wall of this new cave, there are some Morgul bricks. Break them to reveal a hidden chest.
Where the last chest was hidden, there is also a pig nearby. Jump on the back of the pig and a ring of flags will appear. Run around the pig pen, running through each pair of flags in turn, and the chest will appear when you pass through the last pair.
In the far right hand corner of this same room, there is a seedling for Sam to plant. When you do, a carrot will grow, which the nearby rabbit will eat. When it has done this, it will dig up the chest for you.
Still in this same cave, there is a chest above where the rabbit is sat. If you stand on the fence you will be able to aim at a target above the chest. This will knock it down so you can collect it.
Near the entrance of this cave, there is a crank buried behind various objects. Destroy the objects and turn the crank to get another chest.
Head back out onto the battle field and head round to the left. There is a rope hook that you can use to pul yourself up onto a ledge to get the chest.
While you are dealing with this same troll, you will need to use some arrow holes to jump up onto a ledge. Change to Gimli and break open the cracked wall to get the final chest.

Mount Doom

Make your way up the hill until you come to the first river of lava. To the left of the river, there is a pile of rocks. One of these rocks is made of Mithril. Blow the rocks up to reveal the chest that is hidden behind them.
When you have crossed the river of lava, there is a rope hook that you can use. Up there, you will then need to have Gollum climb a wall to reach a grab rail. Don’t be tempted to jump off the rail or you may end up in the lava. Just walk off the edge and Gollum should grab the rail automatically. Now this is where it gets tricky, and this can be a very annoying chest to get. Flowing down with the lava there are platforms. You need to jump on one first, then jump from one to another until you are high enough to get the chest on the right. The fornt of each of these moving platforms has a grab rail on it. Aim for these, rather than trying to jump onto the platform. This way you stay out of the lava. Now just keep jumping from one to another and you will make slow progress up the lava fall to the chest.
As you move on just a little way, you will need to dig up a rock to throw. when you have done this, you manage to divert the lava to allow you to cross. Here you can dig up another rocks. Do that and then throw it at an upright piece of Lego near the front of the screen. This will knock it down into a ledge you can walk on to get a chest.
At the second river of lava, you will need to cross using a grab rail. When you are half way over, part of the wall above you will blow out, revealing a cracked brick. Jump up there and have Gimli work his magic. This will dislodge a chest, which will drop down below you. You only need to jump down to get it.
Across the second river, there is a target that can be hit by an archer to release some coloured bricks. You can then use these bricks to build some stairs and get up to the chest above.
When you have the previous chest, fill a bucket from the water pool nearby, and head further up the slope. You will find a fire in front of a small character hatch. Put out the fire and go through the hatch. There is a crate on the right as you come out. Break it open to reveal a chest.
To the right of the gate that leads into the mountain, there is a small pile of Morgul bricks tucked away on the right. Break them open and a vent will lift you up to get the chest above.
If you move from the last chest, towards the screen, you will se a small character hatch below you. Drop down onto the ledge and hit the rock that is perched beside you. This will block a small river of lava which has been flowing down. Go to the edge of the cliff where the lava was running off the edge. If you follow where the laval was flowing, you can drop off the edge and collect a chest. Now just use the grab rail to get back up.
As soon as you start inside the volcano, switch to Sam and you will see a chest floating above you. The wall on the right of the save point has grab rails on it that you can use to jump up and get the chest.
While you are running out of the volcano, stick to the right side of the screen and keep jumping. There is a chest that you must jump up and get, and if you miss it, you will need to do the whole level again. Very annoying.
